About the event

Robert Lewis and Dan Graham will discuss the findings of their book 'Authentic Voices: An Australian perspective of Neurodiversity and the Performing Arts', published by Routledge (2025).


The volume responds to the growing scholarly interest in the field of neurodiversity in the performing arts. Throughout the last few years, there have been academic and scholarly outputs about neurodiversity and the arts about education and inclusion, there has been little focus on the personal experiences of artists in terms of how they have navigated their way through the industry as actors, writers, administrators, and so on. This also includes their personal experiences throughout their studies in drama school or university.


The book is an auto-ethnographic approach to highlight what safe spaces, inclusivity, performing arts training, and the overall performing arts industry should look like for Neurodivergent artists involved in the collaborative performance process. The pressure cooker of the rehearsal room, the…
